All of the former King George Street was demapped for various projects in the mid-20th Century. Stokes errs in saying that the former King George Street became North William Street. Minthorne Street. (E19) A street parallel to and two blocks north of North Street in the expanded Delancey Farm Grid shown on the Mangin-Goerck Plan of 1803. (Post errs in saying it was two blocks north of Stuyvesant Street.) In 1805 the Common Council approved the continuation of Minthorne Street from the Bowery west to Broadway. By 1807 this westward extension was called Great Jones Street. Minthorne Street east of the Bowery was superseded by the 1811 Commissioners' Plan. Morris Street (2). (E19) A street parallel to and three blocks north of North Street (East Houston Street) in the expanded Delancey Farm Grid shown on the Mangin-Goerck Plan of 1803. This Morris Street was superseded by the 1811 Commissioners’ Plan. Post errs in saying it was three blocks north of Stuyvesant Street. North William Street. (M19-M20) A block-long street that continued the direct line of William Street from Frankfort Street to Park Row. It was opened in 1849 and eliminated in 1953. Stokes errs in identifying this as the northerly part of William Street that was formerly King George Street. Romaine Street. (E19) A street one block north of and parallel to North Street in the expanded Delancey Farm Grid shown on the Mangin-Goerck Plan. It was discontinued by the 1811 Commissioners’ Plan. Post errs in saying it was one block north of Stuyvesant Street. Smee, Smeedes or Smit Straat. See Smith Street (1). Stokes' LMRK (3: 1009) errs in equating these with Smith's Vly, Stokes' index lists them correctly with Smith Street. 6 records found |
